Public Input Need for Updates to Whatcom County Corridor Management Plans

September 6th, 2023

In 2023, Whatcom Council of Governments (WCOG), with support from Visit Bellingham | Whatcom
County, is updating the SR 542 (Mount Baker Highway) and SR 11 (Chuckanut Drive) Corridor Management Plans (CMPs). It’s been over 20 years since Whatcom County’s CMPs were completed and a lot has changed. To help inform updates, stakeholders and the public are invited to complete a survey.
You can take the survey here until September 30.

In addition to input from the multiple governments and government agency stakeholders who own and manage these roadways and adjacent public lands, the CMPs need input from interested individuals, community-based organizations, user groups, and businesses.

Some questions include:

• How can the existing plans be improved?
• What are the most prized features of the places these corridors provide access to?
• What prized features need protection or enhancement?
• What changes in the last 20 years have been beneficial?
• What investments are needed to improve the experiences of our region’s residents, visitors,
and businesses?
• Are there barriers to accessing destinations along the corridor(s)?
• Are transportation and/or visitor services missing?

We hope you can give a few minutes of your time to share your ideas, concerns, or priorities for these roadways and corridors. If you would like additional context, you can read the previous Corridor Management Plans by visiting WCOG’s Scenic Byways webpage.

Thank you for taking the survey and for your continued interest in our region’s future.
